We're coming up to the expiration of the superiordesignawards domain name an,d I'm not really planning on spending another ten bucks to keep it registered. I've had an offer of help from one member so I guess I'll re-register it and then try to sell it to them for a hundred bucks.

Also, I was looking for the type of sites that might display our awards, so I did a search for "our web awards". This was the first result and I have been INSPIRED.

I think we could set up as a competitor site and totally MUSCLE THESE GUYS OUT OF THE MARKET. Then, when we've totally dominated them in the australian model railway awards department, we'll offer them the business.

To put it another way, we'll send them a few sneering emails, offer them our awards to give instead of their own, pretend that we've taken their traffic and then offer to hand it back for free.

Ok this idea sounded better in my head.

I've had an idea - we can have a competition section and we can invite people to submit their sites (all based on a certain theme). Try to get maybe five entries and put a write up about how we only choose the best of the category and don't allow the small fry to even compete.

Then we "review the site" - we do extensive write-ups where we constructively but agressively criticise each site for not looking like the other ones. Hopefully one of these sites will be paying attention.

Now all we need is a theme.

•Things to avoid

"The top", "The best" etc. Use 'A', 'One Of' and the like.
Numbers, unless you know you have that number/many already. Don't shoot the moon by making a top 20 list that only has three items.

•Obvious TLA's and phrases

Any sex slang that can be found by google/urbandic/etc
Same for trade names and variations even sound alikes.

•General observations

Time of year is good 2007/2008 both can work in this time frame and it may be worth the effort to populate a previous years award winners page or two.
All awards are synthetic. This is as real as you want to make it.
Real sponsors and co-op ideas can be explored. After all--Eyeballs are eyeballs.
There's no reason anyone that mentions, or discovers, its all a pile of poo can't just join in the fun of flinging it.

•Award page structure and notes

I suggest a single page with the award and any list of nominations/winners.
Any collective/catalog page should be left for when we have items done.
Basic types of awards-- dispensed, nominated with voting, nominated with conditions, and open nominations via comments.
Awards that are a single user to give with and group dispensed.

PS: Anyone having problems posting can Gmail or Gaz me the links to their assets, and the copy they want, and I'll get it up as quickly as I can.

This is my first time playing around with wordpress and leaving comments seems to fuck the whole thing up, so I've disabled them for now.

I've also heard from a lot of people that nobody can log in. I'll fix this up as soon as I can, I might just have to delete everyone and redo them. If this is the case, everyone let me know what your official name is and I'll give you a new email address at the same time.

Looking at the message I sent everyone, it wasn't entirely clear - I wrote "The password is the same as your email address", when I should have written "The password is the same as the password I set for your email address". Someone let me know if this is the solution.

Also, we need a logo. I'm great at doing retarded pictures, not so good at doing anything that looks professional. Can someone else have a go at this?

Also, until I've fixed everything up, either gaz me or post your stuff here. I'll put it up as soon as I see it.

We now have an official website: www.superiordesignawards.com, and we all have official email addresses to send our awards from.

I'm still working on the website and I'll send invites to all of you soon. If you can all take a few minutes to come up with a profile to add to the "meet the team" page it would be great - a few lines of text and a photo is plenty. Make sure the photo isn't too ridiculous - we want people to take this seriously.

This blog should be used to discuss all plans and to explain any jokes that might not be picked up on by a casual onlooker. Make sure that if we chat on b3ta we still post it here so that outsiders can get the jokes.

Also, while doing research for a new winning design concept I think I may have found a new game to play. Check these out. There are some rare beauties among them, and generally if you go to a site with a particularly bad one on it, you usually find many more, usually on the same page ("Our Awards!!").
I really do think we should make some horribly tacky awards of our own and look for 'deserving' recipients, send them along with a nice email... could even be newsletter material, see just how bad/bizarre we can make the awards before they're refused.

So the short of it is that we have decided to run with this. We have a few plans:

- To see how retarded/vulgar/odd we can make our awards before people stop adding them to their site

- To see if we can get anyone to actually change the layout/font/font size/content of their website just to get one of our awards

- To see if we can get sites to compete for a number 1 in a top-ten style award

- To be dicks on the internet
